Ligature Rescue and Prevention

Ligature incidents are among the most serious and time-critical risks in health, social care, education, and residential settings. They are foreseeable events where staff actions, taken under pressure, can directly determine outcomes.

This online training provides clear, practical guidance on recognising ligature risk, responding decisively to emergencies, and delivering safe, compassionate care following ligature removal. It focuses on what staff need to do in real situations, including both suspended and non-suspended ligature scenarios.

The course introduces a simple, repeatable Ligature Primary Survey (L-C-A-B-D-E) that staff can apply consistently to assess, intervene, and escalate safely. It reinforces reasonable and proportionate action, prioritising life-saving intervention while maintaining dignity and safeguarding throughout the response.

Content is aligned with NICE NG225, NHS patient safety learning, CQC Regulations 12, 13 and 17, and Ofsted safeguarding expectations. It reflects current inspection and coronial learning, avoiding outdated or unsafe messaging and supporting defensible decision-making.

Designed for frontline staff and those supporting vulnerable individuals, this course builds confidence, promotes consistent practice, and supports organisations to meet regulatory expectations for safe care, safeguarding, and learning from incidents.
